Casual Tailoring

There really is something about a good pair of tailored shorts. They just seem to have a perfect fit and are 100 times more attractive than a pair of denim hotpants (on me anyway!). I seem to have a shape that's smaller on top, and bigger on the bottom, so i'm so pleased that this season we can wear longer lengths on the bottom half. Think midis and tailored shorts, and even culottes although I haven't been brave enough to try them out yet. The thing I like most about tailored shorts is that they can easily be dressed up or down. This pair look just as cute teamed with a shirt and heeled sandals. This outfit can be worn with or without the boyfriend coat, although personally I love a coat that's just slung over the shoulders; casual cool.

These shorts were bought from good old Toppers last year, but i've seen a lot of pairs around so far and i'm sure there's more to come as the weather warms up. I must have been thinking ahead when I bought them as they're this season's colour; pastel blue. The white top makes this outfit more casual, the sheer floral detailing adds a little something special to an otherwise plain white top it's and perfect for wearing on a summers day. For my 21st I was a very lucky lady, as my mum bought me the Mulberry bag, and my boyfriend; James bought me the matching purse.. I could not contain my excitement when I opened my presents as i've always wanted one. Now we come to what I think is possibly my favourite item that ive bought so far for Spring, the cleated sole sandals which I featured in my last post. Ive had various comments on them so far ranging from 'omg I love your sandals' to 'what the hell are they, is this a joke?' haha although the second comment came from a boy so what do you expect. Comments aside, I really am so pleased I managed to get my hands on them, they're one of those things you buy that you wouldn't mind if you were the only person in the world to like them so i'm sure you'll be seeing them in a lot more outfits to come.

So what do you think of my casual tailoring? Do you think tailoring should be kept smart or can it also be more casual?

The Perfect Summer Sandals

Sandals - River Island

I think these sandals are a bit like Marmite; you're either going to love them or hate them, and I am in absolutely head over heels in love. From the moment I set eyes on them on the River Island website I knew they had to be mine. I think I love them even more as it took me so long to get my hands on them. Being an annoying half size, one thing that I can't really order online is shoes, so I had to take a trip to my local River Island to try the black pair on as the white was sold out. I decided that a 5 would be perfect, so went to order them online and they were sold out everyyyyywhere other than Oxford Circus. A friend working in London kindly went to get them for me so I finally have them and I couldn't wait to share them with you hence the bad pictures (sorry).

I have to admit that these aren't the most attractive of sandals but ugly shoes are definitely back this season, and this pair definitely caught my eye. There are so many pairs of chunky sandals around at the moment but my heart was firmly set on this pair. Ive already planned quite a few outfits around these sandals so im excited to share the ways I will style them with you. So, what's your opinion? Are you in love like me or will you be sticking to a more traditional pretty sandal this summer?

Dotty for Pastels

Jumper - Primark (bought recently)
Shirt - H&M (bought recently)
Jeans - Topshop
Slip Ons - Topshop (similar pair)
Bag - Vintage

This is my first ever outfit post, and I hope it will be the first of many! At Uni, I lived with 5 photographers, in fact my 2 besties both studied photography so i'm regretting not starting this up sooner. I've had to persuade my brother to take my outfit pics for now in exchange for my baked goods (first up- cinnamon swirls). Still, seeing as he has never studied photography I don't think he did a bad job haha!

Aaanyway.. I thought i'd post the kind of outfit that I wear regularly to give you a bit of an idea about the kind of gal I am, and this outifit is classic me on a casual day. I tend to live in jeans and have made my new years style resolution to be more experimental and push my style boundaries.. so far i'm not doing too badly! I'm a big fan of shirts and jumpers, and I think the polka dots popping out of the bottom of the jumper make this casual ensemble a little more exciting. It's strange to think that not so long ago I never ever ever wore black jeans, I was definitely a classic blue denim lover but now I can't seem to keep myself out of them. As we know by now, slip on shoes are a big big trend for this season, and I bought these leather look beauties from Topshop just before Christmas. I have to admit, I wasn't sure about the chunky platform last season but I fell in love with this pair as soon as I saw them and now i've officially been converted, i'm now on the lookout for a more summery style to wear with skirts and dresses as well as jeans. The bag is a product of my annual raid of my mums wardrobe- i'll be posting about that soon.

So, now you know a little bit more about me and my casual day-to-day style and my aim to be more experimental.. what's your everyday go-to outfit?

High Street Haul- Pastel Blue Hues

Cobalt Trousers - Zara
Pastel Skirt - Zara
Quilted White Top - H&M
Pastel Jumper - Primark
White Crop - Topshop

The sun is starting to make more of an appearance so I thought it was time I started to update my wardrobe for the Spring/Summer season. Having spent the last 3 years at Uni spending my money on more casual everyday clothes like jeans and jumpers, then been travelling, my wardrobe seriously needs an injection of all the new season styles and colours. I didn't plan to buy all pastel blue and white but with blue overtaking pink as the colour of the season I seemed to be mostly drawn to blue items. I also start my first full time graduate job in Marketing next week (woohoo) soo what better excuse for shopping than needing a whole new wardrobe full of work friendly clothes. Having worked in retail for 5 1/2 years and having had to wear a boring uniform, i'm looking forward to finally being able to style my outfits and wear what I want! Now, one of my all-time favourite high street shops has to be Zara, I can't step through the door without finding something I have to have, so I was delighted to pick up the pastel blue leather look skirt (last one on the shop floor phew!) and the cobalt blue tailored trousers. Both are definitely suitable for work and play so i'm sure i'll be wearing them a lot. I fell in love with the white quilted crop which I spotted in H&M- quilted, white AND cropped! Could a girl ask for more trends in one piece?! The pastel blue jumper was a bargain from Primark; £8 on the label, £5 at the till. Even though it was only a £3 saving it's the little things that make you smile don't ya think. Finally, I popped into Topshop and couldn't resist the white top with the sheer flower detail. This isn't so much for work but will look lovely with my ripped jeans and slip ons whilst the weather isn't so warm. So that's what i've been buying this week, I can't wait to post some outfit pics of how i've styled all my new pieces. What have you got your eye on for the Spring/Summer season?

The Cleated Sole

So the cleated sole is back with a vengeance this Spring/Summer season, so i've rounded up my pick of the best styles. River Island have a great selection of cleated/chunky sandals this season, with a range of colours and styles I want them all! The sun is out today as I write, so i'm hoping that the weather is going to start getting warmer, but in the meantime i'll be pairing my sandals with a cute pair of sheer or frilly socks (Topshop and Asos have some lovely pairs!) So, which pair are your favourite? Are you a fan of chunky sandals or do you prefer more of a classic style?

Welcome to my blog!

So, before I get started posting let me introduce myself. My name is Laura, i'm 22, live in London, have a degree in marketing & advertising and i'm obsessed with clothes. There's nothing I love more than buying all my new favourite pieces then trying out different outfits until something just really works. After years of debating/procrastinating and blaming my large stack of uni work (I graduated last year so no more excuses) i've finally decided to start a little blog just to share what ive been lusting after/buying/wearing. Although i'm new to blogging, i'm already on Twitter & Instagram: @LauraCrickmer so you can follow my outfits and what i'm up to on there too. I'm going to try posting a mixture of what I want in my wardrobe and also what i'm wearing a couple of times a week to start with so I hope you enjoy!

I should add that as well as all things fashion, I also love to bake so I apologise in advance if the odd cake recipe/foodie review appears on here.. but every girl loves cake right?

Please feel free to comment and share your blog too, always nice to read about other bloggers!
