Beauty Top Picks

(L-R) Mac - Velvet Teddy, Laura Mercier Primer, Benefit High Beam, Maxfactor Masterpiece Mascara, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclait, Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Foundation, L'Oreal Falsh Lash Superstar Mascara, Tweezerman Tweezers, Lulu Guinness Make Up Bag

So here is a little peak inside my make up bag and the products I use every day to make my face seem slightly human. I mentioned before that i've not always been that big on make up and generally just used tinted moisturiser and a slick of whatever mascara was on offer in Boots. But more recently i've really started to get into make up and now spend a lot more money on it than I used to, my 15 year old self would be soOo proud. I'm definitely no expert but I have tried a variety of products at all price ranges and this is what i've found to work for me so far:

Base: Laura Mercier Primer-
Ahh the primer, how I ever got through life without a primer is beyond me, if I forget to apply it one day now i'm freaking out straight away that my make up is slowly sliding off my face. Having a 2 hour daily commute, primer is definitely a necessity for me now and I do find that my make up stays on much longer using it. I've tried a few including Benefits 'That Gal' and 'Porefessional' and also Smashbox but this Laura Mercier one works best for me. It's like a cream rather than a gel and I find it really gives me the staying power I need.

Foundation: Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet-
I've tried SO MANY foundations and this one is hands down the best i've used. I like my make up to look quite natural and this one is light enough so it doesn't look caked on and gives just the right amount of coverage for me.

Highlighter: Benefit High Beam-
Okay, so admittedly I don't use this every day but it's a staple product for me for a night out. It gives you such a nice glow, I usually apply it to my cheekbones and my brow bone for a little shimmer.

Concealer: Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclait-
This one is one for your dark circles, you can't use it as a normal concealer for your spots etc. but I find it really does reduce darkness under my eyes - something that reallllllly bothers me. It's not the cheapest but for me it's definitely worth the moneys.

Mascaras: L'Oreal False Lash Superstar & Maxfactor Masterpiece-
I've ALWAYS used the white base mascara that you get on those double ended ones. I don't know if it's just because i've always done it but I really don't find my mascara looks as good when I just use the black. I use the L'oreal white base coat, then the Maxfactor Masterpiece then another coat but with the black on the L'oreal. My mascara is such a strict regime lolsss but I really don't feel like it looks as good if I don't follow those 3 steps.

Tweezerman Tweezers-
The king of tweezers, don't think I need to say any more.

Lipstick - Mac Velvet Teddy-
Okay so I know everyone knows all about this one thanks to Miss Kylie Jenner but I find it's a nice natural shade for every day life. I also forgot to photo my lipliner whoops but for this lipstick I use Mac Boldly Bare and use it to line and fill my lips before applying the lipstick - serious staying power right thurrr.

So there you have my face in photos. I'm always looking for new products to try so if you have any recommendations or have found anything better please send them my way. If you like this kind of post, you can read about my skincare regime here.

  1. Hi Laura!
I have just found your Instagram account and saw that you are an online VM for Asos! That's amazing I bet it is the most amazing job! I was wondering if you had any advice on how to break into the fashion business as I hope to become a buyer one day? I'm 18 and have worked in retail for 2 years now and have a work placement in London for 2 weeks in the summer! Do you know if Asos run any placements or work experience opportunities?
You have a lovely blog by the way, one which I will most definitely be reading regularly!
    Thank you
    Laura H xx
